24TH JANUARY - KIDS LOOM WEAVING

Come to the Craft Parlour this school holidays to learn how to weave a vibrant and textural artwork for your wall!

The kids will have all the colours of the rainbow to work with to create their handwoven wallhanging after learning basic weaving techniques and skills on a wooden frame loom. Weaving allows for such creative flow and expression through colour combinations and weaving style and is a great way to slow down and relax into the meditative motions of this process.

This workshop will be taught by Shawnee Dean of Shawnee Made & Found, our resident weaving instructor. Shawnee has been working with fibre art for about 4 years and has completed a Bachelor of Fine Art and a Master of Teaching.

Weaving takes a bit of mindful concentration but is a truly engaging process that makes you feel like you're in a little bubble with just you and your project. As well as this, weaving is great for improving fine motor skills and learning about the traditional techniques used to make so many things we wear and use today.
We will be hanging our woven masterpieces from natural branches/sticks in this workshop, so we encourage you to find your own special branch (about 20cm long) to bring to the workshop if you like. Otherwise, we will have one for you.

Kids will get to take home their finished woven wallhanging.
