Textured and tactile; soft and sultry or ingeniously geometric – prepare to 'wow' yourself as you explore and unleash your crafty side.
This beginner weaving class will have you settling into the meditative motions of creating handwoven textiles, to walk away with your very own contemporary handwoven wallhanging. Whether you love crazy bold colours and textures or muted tones and geometric shapes, this workshop is for lovers of all different styles, allowing you to create a woven tapestry perfect for your home.
Your weaving guide, Gold Coast-based fibre artist Shawnee, behind Shawnee Made & Found, will share with you her passion for loom weaving and connectedness with materials, as well as insight into her design and artistic process when creating beautiful handwoven wall art. Shawnee draws inspiration from organic shapes and natural, earthy colours, and often incorporates recycled, natural and hand-dyed materials into her work. In this workshop you will learn the skills and basic techniques of weaving and then be encouraged to embark on your own creative process, making a handwoven wallhanging that echos your personal style and tastes.
So, join us for a relaxing morning of making, learning a new skill that is centuries old, and go home with a gorgeous unique artwork made entirely by your own hands! Plus you take home your very own loom so you can keep on creating one masterpiece after another!
Each student will create a handwoven wallhanging of their own, they will also take home a Shawnee Made frame loom, tapestry needle, weaving comb, shuttle stick and small calico tool pouch
